Health Visiting Service

The team is made up of health visitors, who are registered nurses with specialist qualifications in health visiting and public health, registered nurses and early years support workers.

Health visiting teams provide a service to all families with children up to the age of five years with the first contact offered during late pregnancy.  Contacts with the health visitor in the first years of life form a large part of the the Healthy Child Programme, which focuses on helping families develop a healthy lifestyle. Families are offered a programme of screening, immunisation and health and development reviews as well as advice about health, well being and parenting.

Additional help and support which you might need from your health visiting team could include:

  • Breastfeeding support
  • Medical problems, special needs, delayed development
  • Maternal mental health, emotional well being
  • Parenting and behavioural issues
  • Family support
