Dementia Advice and Support

The Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. We run quality services, fund research, advise professionals and campaign for improved health and social care and promote greater public understanding and awareness of dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Society provides a free Dementia Advisory Service and Dementia Support Service in the Borough of Darlington for people with any form of dementia, their families and carers.  It is estimated that around 1368 people in the Borough of Darlington have dementia and only 58% of those have a diagnosis.

What we do in Darlington:

  • Provide information on dementia, what a diagnosis means and practical advice on how to live well with dementia;
  • Support on a one-to-one basis or at group drop-in sessions;
  • Provide information and signpost to services;
  • Improve and promote the best quality of care, provide information to professional and everyone involved in dementia care;
  • Offer long term support at dementia cafes, career support groups and singing for the Brain sessions.
